Walterna Holsteins LLC, in Grand Gorge utilized a Delaware County Farm Enhancement Grant to upgrade the living environment in their 75-cow tie-stall dairy barn. With the 4th generation set to join the farm, securing the future is a priority for the family. In this project the barn was renovated to improve ventilation and lighting to enhance cow comfort, animal health and handler safety.
The farmstead has been built over generations, and the barn proudly memorializes the work of current operator Fred Kuhn’s father and grandfather. Serving the herd and family well, the barn was enhanced with the project, benefiting from 3 rows of lighting and a new ventilation system. With these up-grades both cows and humans alike can thrive with improved air quality and lighting
