A picturesque Dairy of Distinction in Franklin, the Buel Dairy made the most of a Delaware County Farm Enhancement grant to undertake a much-needed barn maintenance project. The award of this grant was the deciding factor to take the project from a repair-as-needed to a full roof replacement.
The main dairy barn carried the weight of 3 layers of shingles over its lifespan and had reached a need for replacement with the development of several leaks. The back side of the barn roof also suffered significant damage in a windstorm pushing the project to high priority. Striving for strong financial management on the farm, the timing of this grant aligned with this farm’s needs elevating the project to a full roof replacement. This project improved the integrity of the structure, and safeguards crops and building alike, keeping hay storage dry.
The Farm Enhancement grant has enabled this farm to remain viable and this farm family to continue to preserve the farm, fields, and landscape of this operation into the future as the farm is able to transition to meet evolving needs.
