With an eye on quality milk, quality genetics, and happy, comfortable cows Pepacton Farms employed a Delaware County Farm Enhancement Grant to renovate a portion of their milking barn. This multi-generational farm is a certified organic dairy that practices rotational grazing from April through October. In the winter months, the cows spend limited time outdoors each day for exercise and need adequate, comfortable space to be stabled.
This project allowed for a renovation of half the barn, which was in much need of repairs. Upon completion of the project, 4 previously unusable stalls have been returned to service. All of the cows now have adequate, secure space to eat and rest, as well as mattresses to sleep on. Today the herd is expanding in numbers, added a farmstead creamery for cheese making, and looking forward to a bright future. The Fam Enhance Grant was an instrumental piece in the puzzle for the growth of this sustainable farm.
