Stall Renovation Project

A stroll through the barns at Posthaven Farm will delight anyone with an affinity for good cattle. This is the goal of the Post family; phenotypically superior cattle that perform in the bulk tank. Home to 170 head of registered Holsteins, the family milks 75 head and maintains a robust herd of youngstock.

Designing their breeding program around type, production, and longevity, the family pride themselves on the quality of their stock as breeders of numerous excellent cows, including All-American animals. Stewards of the farm, focused on quality milk production, the Posts recognized the need for improved housing for the milking animals. The Delaware County Farm Enhancement Grant program enabled the family to invest in the comfort and health of their cows through a stall renovation project. The herd now enjoys curb to ceiling stalls, with the tie rail at the appropriate height for maximum cow comfort and minimum feed waste. The project also provided a new watering system for the animals and fitted each stall with a mattress.

Visitors to the farm will appreciate the beautiful herd of large, open framed cows. The cows look and perform their best because they can rest comfortably, have adequate lunge space and a continuous supply of fresh feed and water. The Post family appreciates the ease of the Delaware County Farm Enhancement Grant process. Supplying the labor to install the new stalls themselves, the grant minimized the financial impact of the project, while enhancing cow comfort and reducing wasted feed.
