For a young farming family, the Delaware County Farm Enhancement Grant awarded to Down Home Acres was impactful, catapulting the farm to their next phase of growth. The grant allowed the farm to install a new greenhouse, enabling the expansion of production and launch of an ornamental flower enterprise.
The Crognale family started the farm in 2008 and has been steadily growing, with the annexation of additional farmland, the addition of a self-service farm stand 5 years ago, and continually diversified crop production. Today the farm boasts an orchard with apples and peaches, a robust offering of home grown veggies, started from seeds on-site, with production through Christmas of many vegetable crops in the greenhouses through the colder months, hanging baskets, perennials, spring potted daffodils, tulips and hyacinths and mums in the fall, available at the farmstand, wholesale and in the NYC greenmarkets.
