4-H Meat Chicken Project 2021

Again year, meat chicks are being purchased from Moyers in Quakertown, PA. The day old chicks will be a Robust White, which is a cross between a colored broiler and a conventional white broiler. This broiler grows slower than the conventional broiler and will take 8 weeks to reach maturity. These birds have a robust constitution and is known to be a hearty broiler. The bird has white feathers with about 10% brown or red flecking. This broiler grows at a moderately fast rate and achieves a live weight of approximately 5.95 pounds in 8 weeks on 12.6 pounds of feed. For more information, visit the Moyers web site (photo credit).
Up to 20 Cloverbuds/4-Hers will receive 10 meat chickens, each, to be raised for exhibit at the 6th annual Delaware County 4-H Poultry Roundup.
1. Open to Cloverbuds and 4-Hers – Cloverbuds will be allowed to participate in the 4-H Meat Chicken Project. In order to participate in the 4-H Meat Chicken Project , Cloverbuds must be comfortable speaking with a judge about their project during the 4-H Poultry Roundup in July.
2. Participants will receive 10 meat chickens at no cost.
3. Cloverbud/4-Her must agree to participate in the Delaware County 4-H Poultry Roundup date TBD
4. A Meat Chicken Project Record is required to be completed by each 4-Her.
5. Sign up by contacting Emily at esc33@cornell.edu
6. Only chickens provided by 4-H may be shown in the Delaware County 4-H Roundup.
7. Tentative date to pick up chicks is Thursday, May 20 at Curtis & Janice Kehr’s residence in Walton.
8. Ribbons and premiums will be awarded.
